Tennis is in full swing

Students in 3rd-5th grade have been exploring the world of tennis. We learned about the history of the sport and found out about its French orgins.
They even had a chance to play jeu de paume (game of palm) which was a precursor to tennis.

We enjoyed playing on our outside courts that receive a fresh new coat of paint this summer.

Create a game

Students in the upper grades start off the school year exploring the classifications of sports. We review the 8 different categories that athletics/sports might fall into and how they are classified.

After learning about these classification we explore our creative side by creating our own games. This is a fun unit where students work in a small group to create a fun unique game. It must be different than any other game and they must be able to identify what category the game would fall into.

Here are a few pictures of them teaching their fellow classmates how to play their games.

Mc Sports rewards

Pathfinder is now participating in the Mc Sports affiliate program.
-How does it work?
Pathfinder recieves 1 point for every $10 their members spend. Mc Sports rewards the PE department with a gift card once we reach a particular amount of points.
-How do members designate their affiliates?
Members sign up for active rewards where they will earn points towards their own gift cards. Once member is signed up for active rewards, they can designate their affiliate. This can be done online at mymcsports.com or in store.

B.E.A.R day

Bear day is an extra special day at Pathfinder where we get to be excited about reading.

This year in the gym we spent BEAR day focusing on soccer. We had a special visit from Soccer Bear who brought us books about two great Soccer athletes.

We also were able to enjoy practing our soccer skills at all age levels.  Here are a couple of our 1st graders in action.

The 6th and 7th grade classes also wrote some amazing biographies about soccer players. Stop by the gym to see their work on the bulletin board.

--- An extra special thank you to all of the families that donated books to my classroom collection. I am excited to be able to share them with my students.
